The Great Bambino, the sultan of swat, the colossus of clout, the king of…you get the idea.  The American Express Business Platinum Card is undeniably THE most sought after card in the American Express MR Family lineup.  With its massive welcome bonus as well as its referral power, this is one card you want to be in possession of.  Being a Business Card as well as Platinum in colour definitely helps contribute to the coolness factor as well.  Read on my friends, read on.

Sneak Peak:

Welcome Bonus: up to 75,000 Membership Reward Points after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months.

Annual Fee: $399 (No annual fee waiver)

Referral Power: 25,000 MR Points per successfully approved referral to any MR earning card (up to a Max. 225,000 MR Points/Calendar Year)

Earning Power: 1.25 MR per dollar on everything.

Bells & Whistles:

The Business Platinum Card offers a massive Welcome Bonus of 75,000 Membership Reward Points when you apply through a referral.  You’ll earn 75,000 MR Points after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months.  If you don’t apply through a referral link, then the Amex Welcome Bonus offer is only 40,000 MR Points.  Unless you genuinely don’t like free MR points for doing nothing more than using a referral link, please don’t make that rookie mistake of not signing up through a referral link…use a referral link! If the Welcome Bonus wasn’t enticing enough, the Business Platinum card also offers 25,000 MR Points for referrals.  Yes, you read that correctly, 25,000 MR Points per successful referral to ANY card in the Amex MR Family Lineup.  Think about it, you are essentially getting the equivalent of the Welcome Bonus for the Gold Rewards Card every time you refer someone using your Business Platinum Card.  That’s huge! That’s enough points to get a round-trip ticket in economy through Aeroplan anywhere in Canada/Continental USA flight for free. Make 2 successful referrals and pack your bags for Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and parts of South America.

Now, you are probably a little apprehensive of the $399 annual fee.  With that being said, it’s still an incredible deal.  Remember the aforementioned example I gave above? With 75,000 MR points, you can redeem for an economy flight through Aeroplan to Iceland, Greece, Czech Republic and even places in Asia such as Hong Kong, Japan and China. You’d be very hard-pressed to find a cash fare to those destinations for $399 which makes the Business Platinum Card an incredible value, despite the annual fee.

Earning Power on the Business Platinum Card is 1.25 MR points per dollar spent on anything and while not as good compared to the Gold rewards card, when combined together, they can prove to be a great earning tool.

Travel Coverages:

The Business Platinum Card offers a multitude of travel perks including Gold Elite status with Starwood Preferred Guest as well as Marriott Rewards. Having gold status can unlock a host of benefits such as late check-out, free upgrades, complimentary breakfast, and so on.

You’ll also have access to airport lounges around the world.  With your Business Platinum Card, you’ll have complimentary access to the Plaza Premium network of lounges as well as the Centurian Lounges for yourself, your spouse as well as two children under the age of 21, or one travel companion.  You’ll also receive a complimentary membership to the Priority Pass network of lounges.  With that being said, although the membership is covered, the entry fee into the lounges is not.  You will still be required to pay the $27 USD entry fee for yourself as well as any guests.  On the other hand, if you were in possession of the Platinum Card, then you would receive free entry into the Priority Pass lounges for yourself and one guest.

Lastly, the card also offers benefits at Toronto Pearson Airport such as discounted parking and a valet parking fee waiver, and access to the priority security lane.  Also, with your Business Platinum card, you’ll also have Platinum Concierge Service and last but not least, access to the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts Program.

For Travel Expenses charged to your card you will obtain the following:

Travel Accident Insurance: up to $500,000

Emergency Medical Insurance: Maximum of $5,000,000 per insured person.

Lost, Delayed or Stolen Baggage Insurance: up to $1,000

You’ll also have coverage for trip interruption, flight delay, hotel burglary and car rental theft and damage.

Lastly, it also includes Disability Plan for Small Business which covers you in the event of permanent, total disability as the result accidental injury – up to $10,000 as a sole proprietor.
